4 week course on using Free Motion and Walking feet for sewing machines– dates 17, 24 April, 1,8 May 2024 at Macc Art Space, time 7-9 p.m. Course given by Frances Bell is aimed at Macc Art Space Volunteers who may use stitching as part of their art/craft projects. They will pay a nominal fee to cover heating/lighting/etc. Course currently fully booked – no future courses planned at present.

Course Description

This 4 week course starts with observation of samples of work and then a mini-project, set by Frances Bell, that allows participants to practice use of free-motion/darning foot and/or walking foot, demonstrated in the first session. You will be given a blank practice piece, that will be the start of your practice stitch journals. You can do the mini-project as a practice piece or using chosen fabric as decorative piece.

You will then be encouraged to establish their own projects, supported by Cath Belfield who will help you translate your ideas into practice. Over the following three weeks, additional techniques will be introduced week by week eg simple free motion meandering stitch (sometimes called vermicelli stitch), matchstick quilting, appliqué, lettering/writing, couching stitch over yarn, and others according to participant request.
